In order to ensure that each child’s individual stage of development and learning goals are fostered every child in the nursery is assigned a key person. They have special responsibilities for working with a small number of children, giving the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building relationships with parents/carers. A key person plays a vital role in a child’s life and must demonstrate consistency, sensitivity and be responsive to the child’s individual needs. It is important that they engage, interact and connect with a child and their family. The key person will observe, assess and plan.
