Are you a male early years practitioner – or would you like to be? Many men interested in childcare careers may be put off by old-fashioned gender stereotypes. At Toad Hall Nurseries, we urge you to forget social conventions, follow your dreams and apply to work with us! Just look how many benefits are gained by children and workers alike, when there are more men in childcare.
Break down those stereotypes!
Every day at nursery, we observe little boys and girls who don’t always conform to the stereotypes that are so firmly entrenched in our culture.
We want all children to feel free to be themselves – whether that involves playing with dolls or tinkering with trucks, or whatever takes their fancy.
By achieving a better balance between women and men in childcare, we can help show children that whatever your gender, there’s nothing to stop you following your interests.
Be a role model
Because men in childcare are relatively rare, children in early years settings don’t always encounter many male adults. That doesn’t reflect the wider world around us, and we’re keen to build a more diverse and representative workforce so that children can be inspired by a wider variety of adults. More men in early years settings will provide male figures for children to look up to, showing children that caring roles aren’t just confined to women.
Make Dads feel welcome
Just as men in childcare tend to be outnumbered by women, Dads at the nursery gates are still in the minority. We really want all Dads to feel welcome and comfortable coming to nursery and chatting about their children’s progress. By employing a better mix of men and women in our settings, we believe that fathers will feel more included, and better able to relate to our staff.
Work somewhere amazing
Nurseries and other early years settings are exciting, stimulating and rewarding places to work. If you’re looking for a career that really means something, where you can make a difference to young children’s lives, and where young faces light up when they see you, a job in childcare could be for you. Toad Hall Nurseries are friendly and happy places to work, and we offer early years training for a range of qualifications, because we’re eager to invest in the best people for the job. You’ll work sociable hours, build relationships with supportive colleagues and benefit from a range of staff perks.
