Toad Hall children’s nurseries specialise in providing quality childcare and early education for children from the age of 3 months to school age. We are committed to providing the best possible early years experiences for the children and families that use our day nurseries, through qualified and caring staff, excellent resources and education initiatives such as our Early Language Programme, Let’s Get Physical and Magical Maths. Fresh nutritious food is prepared on site daily as part of our belief that it is essential to provide the right nutrition to ensure children grow and develop well whilst in our care.
30 hours free childcare funding
Toad Hall plans to offer working parents the opportunity to access 30 hours funding from September 2017, subject to parents meeting the minimum qualifying criteria as set by the Government. The group’s Watford nursery successfully piloted the scheme in Autumn 2016 and Toad Hall will roll it out across all nurseries from September 2017.
As part of our commitment to providing fresh nutritious food prepared on site daily – essential to providing the right nutrition to ensure children grow and develop well whilst in our care – we have made the decision to charge parents for food.
Nursery World reported this month in their Nursery Food supplement, that nursery food is one of the areas that nursery settings are going to need to either start charging for separately, or nurseries will need to cut corners in terms of ingredients, which may drastically affect food quality. Toad Hall was quoted in Nursery Food, saying:
“30 hours a week at nursery is a lot of time for a provider to give a high standard of nutrition and I feel it’s my moral duty, and duty of care, to encourage children to eat healthily and give them the right nutrients and food groups. I’m not prepared to compromise on the standard of food that we provide for children, which has left us with no other real option other than to charge for food. We haven’t finalised how much we’ll be charging for food just yet.”
At the recent pilot at our Watford nursery with 30 hours free childcare funding parents were charged extra for meals and we had no complaints about the charge.
