For the second edition in a row, Toad Hall finds itself spread across the pages of Nursery Management Today (NMT) magazine as Toad Hall talks once again to Sue Churchill about our efforts to promote healthy eating.
Recent research by King’s College, London, has revealed that, while obesity rates for the population as a whole are still on the increase, rates for the under-10s are actually levelling off. This is great news, and owes much to the emphasis that we and others in the early years sector have placed on the provision of healthy food for the children.
However, obesity rates for children over 11 continue to rise. It’s clear that more needs to be done to stem the predominance of processed foods in families’ diets, and the role of education in that change is crucial.
The article looks at how we at Toad Hall engage with our parents and children to encourage healthy eating, starting with our award-winning nursery menus and our Cook and Grow programme, which gets the children involved in growing and cooking food and inevitably brings parents along for the ride!
The article is also full of praise for our recipe book so if you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to download or order your hard copy on our website.
