Tip of the month
Singing in the rain!
If the rain is keeping you indoors and your toddler is starting to act like they need to go outside, put on some rain gear (boots, raincoat and gloves) grab an umbrella and go for a walk. Make sure that you have a good splash in every puddle!
Winter is upon us once again. In order to ensure that the children continue to benefit from outdoor play please can we ask that your child has a change of clothes and suitable outdoor clothing inclusive of hat, scarf, gloves and wellies. Thank you.
Christmas Tea Towels
We are producing Christmas tea towels this year with the children’s footprints, handprints or self-portraits on. They will be on sale at the nursery by the end of November if you wish to order any.
Collecting and Dropping Your Child at Nursery
Can we remind all parents picking up or dropping children to adhere to the times they are booked in to attend the nursery as we have to keep to appropriate child-staff ratios. The nursery has an early pre-booked drop off from 7.30am otherwise we do ask that parents do not arrive before 8am – as we cannot accept the children any earlier. Late pickups are charged at £10.00 per quarter-hour which also applies to children being picked up late from the morning session!
Children in need
We will be raising money for Children in Need on the 15th November. We will be dressing up to in our favourite costumes and there will also be cakes on sale during that week. Any donations are welcome.
What we have been doing this month…
Little stars have been very busy making pumpkin pictures for Halloween. We have been getting messy by making hand-print pictures using black and orange paint and we have also been making autumn leaf pictures. Little stars have enjoyed garden play and exploring the environment.
Butterflies have been celebrating Halloween this month. We have been making pictures using different shape prints and the children enjoyed talking about the black cat and using a shape to make it look like a pumpkin. Butterflies have been talking about our pumpkin and they helped to scoop out all the insides whilst talking about the seeds and what was inside. Butterflies have also enjoyed reading the story ‘pumpkin soup’. Next month Butterflies will be making firework pictures using fluorescent colored sand and black card.
Rainbows have been busy making Halloween pictures for our festival board. We made our pictures by using different shape prints like cats and pumpkins. Rainbows have been playing with their new car garage and have been playing well in small groups. Rainbows have been enjoying circle time where they have been talking about the weather and discussing what they have been doing during the weekend. In November Rainbows will be creating firework pictures and focusing on their story of the month.
This month dragonflies have been exploring autumn and looking at what we can find when we are in the garden and at home. We have found lots of leaves, conkers and acorns. We have also talked about the weather like rains and storms and how cold it is getting outside. Dragonflies walked down to Waitrose where they bought two pumpkins for their harvest display and will soon be making pumpkin pie to take home with them. Dragonflies have been welcoming their new fish to the room – they are two big goldfish called ‘splish’ and ‘splash’
Books of the month
Each room will be following a book of the month and doing activities linked in to this. The books they are looking at are:
- Little Stars – “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”
- Butterflies – “Monkey Puzzle”
- Rainbows – “Small”
- Dragonflies – “The Kiss That Missed”
If you would like to join in with us please read these stories to your children at night time to allow them to share this experience with you.
