Safe and secure spaces
for your little ones
Our commitment to safety
At Toad Hall Nursery Group, the safety and wellbeing of our children, staff, and parents is our highest priority. We follow the statutory health and safety guidelines set out by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Our approach is built on strong policies, robust procedures, and personalised care for every child. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing home-from-home environment, giving parents peace of mind and children the best start in life.
Health and Safety Training
All staff receive Paediatric First Aid training, ensuring they are fully prepared to respond quickly and confidently in the event of a medical emergency or incident. This training is completed with our partner, Tigerlily Training.
In addition to First Aid, our team also receives comprehensive training in key areas of nursery care, including:
- Safeguarding and Child Protection – Recognising and responding to signs of abuse or neglect
- Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness – Promoting safe meal preparation and managing dietary needs
- Fire Safety and Emergency Evacuation Procedures – Keeping everyone safe in case of fire
- Intruder safety - Keeping children and staff safe and calm in the event of an intruder
- Manual Handling – Ensuring safe practices when lifting children or equipment
- Infection Control – Minimising the spread of illness through hygiene protocols
- Health and Safety Awareness – Understanding risk assessments and safe working practices
This training is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practices. Staff are supported through ongoing professional development to maintain the highest standards of care and safety within our settings.
Safeguarding
Each of our nurseries has a dedicated Safeguarding Lead responsible for promoting and maintaining child protection practices on-site, supported by our company-wide Head of Safeguarding who provides oversight and guidance across all settings.
In addition, every team member completes Safeguarding training, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to recognise and respond to any concerns around child welfare.

Safer Recruitment
We are committed to recruiting staff who are not only qualified but also fully dedicated to the safety of the children in our care. All team members undergo a thorough recruitment process, including enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, employer references, identity verification, and qualification checks.
We understand that an enhanced DBS check is just one part of determining a person’s suitability to work with children; so, our nursery management teams implement a comprehensive recruitment and induction procedure for every new employee. In addition, all staff receive ongoing support, training, and supervision to ensure they uphold our high standards and contribute to a safe, secure, and healthy environment.
Security
Each of our nurseries is equipped with secure entry and exit systems, including a buzzer entry policy and strict door protocols. All individuals entering the building must be granted access by a member of our team, ensuring we maintain full control over who is on site at all times. We also have signing in and out procedures for all visitors, so that we can accurately monitor and record everyone who enters and leaves the premises.
Food Safety
Our dedicated kitchen teams hold up-to-date food hygiene certifications, and our food preparation areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. In addition, staff working in nursery rooms receive food safety training to support safe mealtime supervision. We follow strict procedures around allergy management, with individual care plans, and robust cross-contamination prevention practices. These steps help us provide a safe and inclusive dining experience for every child.
